Today, we focused on improving finger-work, rather than just learning new material. For beginners, it’s always hard to swap back and forth between chords in an instant (hell, I still think it’s tough sometimes). That’s why we just practiced, practiced, practiced swapping between chords in certain chord progressions. Our aim was to keep with the beat, to have a consistent strumming pattern, and to have nicer sounding chords in general. In addition, we practiced many different finger exercises and placements to get the hand used to holding different shapes. I also finished teaching Dren how to play Tears in Heaven – our first finger-picking song. Now it’s up to him to get used to the hand movements and to master it.
