Music Lessons: Day 4 – Open G

Today, we experimented with different styles of tuning, most importantly, the open G style tuning (dropping first two and last string). This tuning is used in songs we wish to perform at the symposium including Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked by Cage the Elephant and Fearless by Pink Floyd. This tuning was especially fun and relatively easy to play with (and sounds nice, too). Though we learned a lot of the first song, we will need to utilize a finger slide – something we’ll purchase over the weekend – to perfect the song. We tried to also experiment with a few different chords and progressions for jazz, but jazz being jazz, it was a bit too complicated to get used too.
