Today we learned and practiced a couple songs that were focused on the dreaded bar chord. A bar chord is made with a standard chord in addition to an extra finger covering all the strings on a fret. Bar chords are generally considered difficult, especially for a beginner. We learned Hotel California, Say it Ain’t So, and revisited House of Gold (and it’s accompaniment. This was arguably the worst lesson I’ve taught, because of how frustrating and tedious the chords were for Dren. He seemed to catch on quicker than others would, and while it sounded nice when playing, it always took wayyy to long to change into those awful chords. With more practice, I’m sure he’ll be able to seamlessly integrate bar chords into his performances.
